The March issue of Vanity Fair is creating waves about those stars who appear nude — and those celebs who won’t.
Match Point’s Scarlett Johansson, 21, and Oscar nominee Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice), 20, appear naked in a photograph by Annie Leibovitz on the cover of VF, on newsstands nationwide Feb. 14. Tom Ford, Gucci’s former creative director and the issue’s guest artistic director, poses with them (fully clothed).
VF, which aims to draw attention to its annual Oscar edition, turned to Ford for a rousing vision. “I find people better-looking without clothes than with clothes,” he says in the 12th annual Hollywood issue. But not everyone went along with Ford’s plan.
His original vision for the cover shot was a threesome of young actresses. In a “behind the scenes” article, readers learn that Ford’s appearance was a last-minute change after “a certain young actress” bowed out.
Rachel McAdams, 29, “did want to do it, and then when she was on the set I think she felt uncomfortable, and I didn’t want to make anybody feel uncomfortable,” Ford said Tuesday on ABC’s Good Morning America. McAdams’ rep did not return calls for comment Tuesday.
Still, most subjects were eager to go along with Ford’s plans, according to VF.
